The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday affirmed Mr. Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The National Leader of the party, Senator Seriake Dickson, supported by the National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe handed Obi the party’s flag after a motion for his affirmation was moved by Senator Victor Umeh and seconded by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege at a special convention observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Obi, who used the occasion to nominate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his presidential running mate, unveiled an ambitious blueprint for national renewal, declaring that “a New Nigeria is possible” in his acceptance speech ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking before party leaders, delegates and supporters, Obi said his candidacy was not about personal ambition but about restoring hope, rebuilding national unity and addressing the deep-seated challenges confronting the country.
“This pivotal moment transcends the individual ambitions of Peter Obi; it concerns the essence of our nation and the future of our children,” he said. “It is about rekindling hope for millions who have faced adversity yet remain committed to Nigeria.”
