YOSPIS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR EMERGES THEMATIC LEAD IN KANO STATE OPEN GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP ELECTIONS

7 August 2026

The Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) proudly announces the emergence of its Executive Director, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, as a Thematic Lead under Access to Information in the Kano State Open Government Partnership (OGP) following the civil society election held on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

Her emergence represents an important milestone for YOSPIS and reflects the organization’s continued commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, citizen participation and inclusive governance in Kano State.

The Kano State OGP election brought together civil society organizations and stakeholders to select representatives into the State OGP Steering Committee and Thematic Working Groups, structures designed to strengthen collaboration between government and non-state actors in advancing open government reforms.

Speaking on the development, YOSPIS ED expressed her appreciation to the participating civil society organizations and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in YOSPIS.

“This is a responsibility to serve, listen, collaborate and ensure that citizens remain at the centre of open governance.”

YOSPIS wishes to clarify that it is an independent, non-profit, civil society organization duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and is led solely by its Executive Director and board management structure. The organization operates autonomously in line with its constitutional objectives and governance framework.

YOSPIS believes that meaningful open government requires strong partnerships between government and citizens, transparent decision-making, access to information, accountability and sustained opportunities for citizens particularly young people to participate in governance.

The organization therefore looks forward to contributing constructively to the Kano State OGP process and supporting efforts that will strengthen inclusive participation, transparency and accountability across the state.

YOSPIS remains committed to advancing accountable governance and empowering young people to actively shape democratic development in Nigeria.

Signed:
Zainab Nasir Ahmad,
Executive Director,
Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS)
