Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his predecessor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, met on Tuesday at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport for the first time since the 2023 transition of power.
The brief encounter took place when Governor Yusuf returned to the state after an official engagement outside Kano, while Ganduje, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was at the airport on an official assignment.
Dailywatch24 reports that the two leaders exchanged pleasantries in what appeared to be a cordial and respectful interaction, drawing the attention of the public.
The meeting is particularly significant as it marks their first public interaction since Governor Yusuf assumed office in May 2023.
Recalled that Ganduje did not hand over power to Yusuf directly but delegated the responsibility to the then Secretary to the State Government during the formal transition ceremony.
Political observers in the state have described the encounter as a “positive signal” that could help reduce political tension and foster dialogue between the two camps, which have remained at odds since the hotly contested 2023 governorship election.
Abba Kabir Yusuf, a member of the Kwankwasiyya movement and NNPP, while Abdullahi Ganduje was the immediate past National Chairman of APC.
