The Nigerian Senate Committee on Health is currently holding a public hearing on a bill seeking to establish the National Eye Centre in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The hearing is taking place at the committee’s conference hall.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, who represents Adamawa Central Senatorial District, passed its second reading in 2024 and was subsequently referred to the Senate Committee on Health for further deliberation.
Speaking at the well-attended hearing, Senator Abbas emphasized the strategic importance of the proposed centre, noting that its location in the Adamawa State capital would cater to a large population. He further stated that once operational, the National Eye Centre would serve not only Adamawa Central but the entire North East and the country at large.
