The Kano Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has forwarded a letter warning to the State Minister of Housing and Urban Development Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata over recent media statements concerning internal party matters and aspirants.
According to the statement, the party said such remarks “have the tendency to provoke misunderstandings and disunity among members.”
In a letter dated November 21, 2025, signed by the Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the APC stressed that matters relating to party affairs “fall strictly within the purview of the APC leadership and its designated spokespersons”.
“You’re not assigned public relations role within the party as such public comments may be wrongly interpreted as official party position”
Ata was said to have recently criticized the reappointment of the current APC Kano State chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, suggesting it could weaken the party’s prospects.
He reportedly said he might leave the party if Abbas remained in office, but later clarified that his comments were intended to promote party unity and accused some media outlets of misrepresenting his statements.
The letter also warned that as a Minister, Ata’s public comments could be misinterpreted as official party positions.
It further noted that while Ata has the right to support any aspirant, “by virtue of your position as a Minister and member of the Federal Executive Council, you are expected to engage on issues that will facilitate the unity of all party members.”
The APC warned that continued unguarded statements could lead to disciplinary action.
Copies of the letter were also sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, former Kano Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the APC North West Zonal Vice Chairman
