In commemoration of the two-year anniversary of the handover of over 600 Kano repentant thugs to the Kano State Government by the Kano State Police Command under the leadership of former Commissioner of Police, AIG Muhammad Usaini Gumel on October 17, 2023 and coinciding with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, observed annually on October 17, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Chair of the AMG Foundation, has announced an empowerment support targeting 100 of these repentant thugs.
The empowerment support with expected funding of Five Million Naira, is aimed at reintegrating the youth as productive members of society.
In a statement issued by Mallam Jalo Sulaiman, Director of Operations at the AMG Foundation, the empowerment and training will run over a period of three months and will include phone repairs, solar installation and repairs while some of them will be empowered with locally made trucks for transporting goods in various markets to facilitate economic engagement.
Announcing the empowerment support on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Sokoto State while marking his 52nd birthday, Dr. Magashi emphasized that the AMG Foundation will collaborate with YOSPIS, the Kano State Police Command, and the Kano State Government to successfully implement the support.
It can be recalled that AMG Foundation had earlier trained 50 of the repentant thugs on fire safety in partnership with the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Police Command and YOSPIS.
