The Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) participated as a panelist in the Kano Facebook Connect Summit, where its Executive Director, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, made a strong call for unity among stakeholders and renewed commitment toward youth development in Kano State.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the challenges facing young people. She urged government, civil society, and the private sector to work together in building sustainable opportunities for youth across the state.
A key highlight of her speech was the advocacy for the swift passage of the Kano Youth and Sports Development Bill. She noted that the bill, once passed into law, would provide a structured framework for empowering young people, promoting development, and addressing pressing youth-related issues in Kano State.
She also highlighted key promises contained in the Kano State Government blueprint that require urgent implementation. These include initiatives such as the establishment of an annual youth fellowship and the provision of grants to support young people. She stressed that delivering on these commitments is critical to empowering youth, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable livelihoods across the state.
In response, the Honourable Commissioner for Information Comrade Ibrahim Waiya who represented the Kano State Governor at the event, acknowledged the concerns raised and assured participants of the government’s commitment to youth development. He stated that he would personally follow up to ensure the Kano Youth and Sports Development Bill is given the necessary attention towards its passage into law.
The Commissioner further reassured stakeholders that all youth development promises made by the Kano State Government would be diligently implemented, particularly those highlighted by the Executive Director of YOSPIS during the summit.
YOSPIS remains committed to advocating for policies and programs that promote the wellbeing, development, and active participation of young people in governance and society.
