In an effort to ensure that citizens are fully informed about government policies and programs, Kano state government has pledged to be updating Juma’at Mosque Imams on its activities.
Commissioner’ of information and internal affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya made the pledge on Tuesday at a two day sensitization workshop for Imams of Juma’at Mosque organized by ministry of information and internal in collaboration with ministry for Religious and Kano state council of Imams.
The Commissioner’ explained that, the present administration under governor Abba Kabir Yusuf considered Islamic teachers and Imams as critical stakeholders in society, and the government respect them, promising to restrengthen the relationship.
Comrade Ibrahim Waiya said, the messages convey by the Imams in their sermon are very strong, and can easily penetrate into the society, urging them to always use the right statement.
”You are highly respected among community members, your messages are respected too, that is why government wants to collaborate with you for profer dissemination of information”
The workshop with theme; building a better future together: Understanding and supporting government policies for societal development is aimed at equipping the clerics about government policies.
The Commissioner’ also urged the Imams to provide the government with advices that will help in developing the state, calling on them to use the information gathered at the event in their subsequent sermons.
In his part, emir of Kano Khalifa Muhammadu Sunusi II asked the Imams to educating their followers on the importance of peaceful society.
He said, is not right for the Imams and clerics to give priority to opposing one another, instead, teach your followers their religion and tell those in authority the truth.
Speaking earlier, chairman, council of Friday Mosque chief Imams Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, said it is against their tradition to offer advice to the governor or emir in sermon, but privately at home.
Many Islamic clerics , Imams of Friday Mosques are attending the sensitization workshop which would be concluded on Wednesday
